TRAPPETO... NOT ONLY THE SEA!

A land rich in traditions, folklore and culture

40 km far from Palermo in the heart of the Gulf of Castellammare (Trapani), Trappeto is a piece of heaven. In a setting of natural wonders in a fertile and lush land; in the middle of a historic itinerary, very picturesque and kissed by a beautiful sea.

Built in the fourteenth century in the forest Partenia of Frederick of Aragon, Trappeto slowly became an area rich in vineyards and citrus groves. It overlooked a sea crossed once by sailing ships, loaded with sugar and wine and nowadays by boats full of tourists and vacationers. The name "Trappetum Cannamelarum" originates from the construction of the first factory (1480) for the extraction and refining of Cannamela sugar. The site was next to a defence tower, like so many of today's existing in an Arabic - Norman style, crowning an area with a rich history of constant battles between Christians and Moors-Saracens.

Immediately after the war, Trappeto was placed as a symbol of total misery, touching the most merciful minds of Italy and Europe. The cultural reachness and humanity of these Sicilian people were diffused thanks to Danilo Dolci and the action of his study centre Borgo di Dio (1968), located on a promontory in the country side. Since then, started that wonderful renaissance that led to the break with the past. In first place it was led by the inhabitants themselves. They were animated by a renewed praise and inexhaustible need of humanization and justice, towards a destiny of unstoppable progress.
